National Indigenous History Month 2025: Honouring Indigenous Knowledge, Resilience, and Futures

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour the deep and enduring histories, cultures, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

At OACAS, we continue our commitment to truth and reconciliation by listening, learning, and uplifting Indigenous voices. This month is not only an opportunity to celebrate the diversity and resilience of Indigenous communities, but also to reflect on our shared history and take meaningful steps toward justice, equity, and healing.

As June continues, we’re reflecting on weekly themes that spotlight Indigenous perspectives on:

  • Language and culture
  • Women, girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ people
  • Environment, traditional knowledge, and territory
  • Children and youth
  • Truth and Reconciliation

We encourage you to explore these themes and deepen your learning through books, podcasts, art, and community events.

Truth and Reconciliation is an ongoing journey, and it begins with awareness and relationships. We invite you to take time this month to learn about the land you live on, the history of the land and any related treaties, support Indigenous creators and businesses, and reflect on how your actions can support lasting change.

Together, let us honour the past, celebrate the present, and build a better future in partnership with Indigenous communities.
