National Indigenous History Month 2026: Honouring Indigenous Knowledge, Resilience, and Futures

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who have lived on this land since time immemorial.

At OACAS, we remain committed to truth and reconciliation through learning, relationship-building, and meaningful action. National Indigenous History Month provides an opportunity to honour the strength, resilience, and leadership of Indigenous communities while reflecting on our collective responsibility to advance reconciliation.

Throughout the month, we encourage individuals and organizations to deepen their understanding of Indigenous histories and contemporary realities, celebrate Indigenous achievements, and engage with Indigenous voices, stories, and perspectives.

Truth and Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. It requires listening, learning, and taking action to support equitable outcomes for Indigenous children, youth, families, and communities. We invite you to take time this month to learn about the land you live on, explore Indigenous cultures and histories, support Indigenous creators and businesses, and reflect on how each of us can contribute to lasting change.

Together, let us honour the past, celebrate the present, and work toward a future grounded in respect, partnership, and reconciliation.
