Sixties Scoop trial begins August 23 with rally

Medicine wheel 1In 2009, two Sixties Scoop survivors launched a class action lawsuit against the Government of Canada on behalf of the estimated 16,000 survivors from Ontario. On August 23, the Ontario Superior Court will begin hearing their case.

Between 1965 and 1985, thousands of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit children across Canada were removed from their families and placed in foster or adoptive care, decades of action that became known as the Sixties Scoop.

Survivors and their supporters will be holding a rally on August 23 to acknowledge the beginning of this landmark trial.
