Transforming Evidence Into Action: A Policy Forum on Anti-Black Racism and Child Welfare

Tuesday, October 24, 2023 | 10 AM to 1 PM (EST) | Virtual

Anti-Black racism is woven into the fabric of Canadian policies, practices, institutions, and sectors, including education, health, criminal justice, and child welfare. As part of the program’s multifaceted approach, One Vision One Voice is committed to creating cross-sectoral opportunities for expert stakeholders to come together to identify key drivers and mitigative strategies to the anti-Black racism sustained in Ontario’s child welfare system.

This forum will engage experts and knowledge holders in:

  • Exploring the roles of
  1. Mandated referrers and the Duty to Report in sustaining the disproportional numbers of Black families involved with child welfare; and
  2. Legislative and policy-related language in sustaining anti-Black racism within child welfare.
  • Discussions surrounding the collection of identity-based data and its relevance in measurement, evaluation, effective service delivery, and systemic accountability.

This year’s panelists include prominent members of school boards, academia, policing, and within the community.

Everyone is encouraged to attend, including child welfare workers, persons working in the health sector/policing/education, community organizations, and members of the Black community.
