Revamped curriculum launched for Ontario’s child protection workers

New curriculum increases focus on equity, human rights, anti-racism, and Indigenous content

In January 2017, the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS) launched a revamped set of curriculum for Ontario’s child protection workers. The Child Welfare Pathway to Authorization Series is designed to be more responsive and better reflect the realities of child welfare work in Ontario using an anti-oppressive framework. It covers topic such as equity, human rights, and anti-racism, with a focus on Indigenous content. It also includes e-learning, assessment, and evaluation components.

As of May 2017, 21 Series were scheduled across the province, with 244 new child welfare professionals registered in the training. By the end of June 2017, 10 Series will be concluded and 100 child welfare professionals will have completed the Authorization Candidacy Exam (ACE).
