The\u00a0Ontario Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth (OPACY)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has produced a guide to help young people in provincial care understand and exercise their health rights.<\/p>\n Anchored in recommendations from\u00a0My Real Life Book<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(the report from the\u00a0Youth Leaving Care Legislative Hearings<\/strong><\/a>) the\u00a0Ultimate Health Rights Survival Guide<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>provides young people with information on their health rights – what they are and how to exercise them.<\/p>\n The focus is on understanding informed consent and participating directly in decisions regarding a young person’s health care and medical treatment. Several Children\u2019s Aid Societies as well as OACAS were involved in discussions on the development of the guide.<\/p>\n The Guide is available in\u00a0English<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0French<\/strong><\/a>.
