Here are some statistics on child welfare in Ontario. For more statistics and data, please 2011 Child Welfare Report (Children’s Well-Being: The Ontarian Perspective).
Between April 1, 2010, and March 31, 2011, CASs received 166,754 calls. Among them:
- 82,876 referrals were assessed and it was determined that no investigation was necessary.
- 83,878 investigations were completed by CASs.
In more than 90% of cases where CASs must become involved, their work is done with the family and the child stays at home.
More than 27,000 children and almost 25,000 families received services from a CAS.
16,953 children were in the care of Ontario’s CASs (as of March 31, 2011).
Of the 16,953 children in care, 9,211 or 55 % children and youth are in foster care.
